african dance development

Historical background

The creation of a choreographic development center

The Company salia nï seydou is today part of these new generations of African companies in which the choreographers defend and assert on the international scene a strong and original choreographic writing. Created in 1995 by Salia Sanou and Seydou Boro, who thanks to the complicity they developed at the national choreographic center of Montpellier, directed by Mathilde Monnier and during the first choreographic meetings organized by Afrique en créations (France), the Company salia nï seydou is a no lucrative association involved in cultural and artistic fields.

The objectives of the company are :

  • to be a framework to accompany and be an instrument to develop the researches, the training and the creations of Salia Sanou and Seydou Boro, both choreographers

  • to contribute to the assertion of an innovative approach in the domain of choreographic creation

  • to work for the emergence of creative choreographers and professional dancers.

  • to support a permanent and professional artistic life thanks to the production of high quality works.

At the same time the Company salia nï seydou is involved in the creation of choreographic works in Burkina Faso (1995 - The century of fools / 1997 - Figninto, the torn eye / 1999 - Taagalà, the traveller), it initiated in 1997 choreographic meetings organized around workshops and reflection on African creative dance, known as Dialogues de corps.
With a wealth of these assets, the Company salia nï seydou had as other objective the construction of a Choreographic Development Center, a genuine instrument dedicated to creation and to artistic exchanges. .
